  • Jordan’s King Abdullah II Inaugurates First Utility-Scale Wind Farm in the Middle East

    Tafila, Jordan, 17 December, 2015 – His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn al-Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan inaugurated today the first utility-scale wind power project in the Middle East with high-level officials from across the Middle East in attendance, including HRH Prince Talal bin Muhammad; HE Dr Abdullah Ensour, the Prime Minister of Jordan; HE Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and Chairman of Masdar; HE Dr Ibrahim Saif, Jordan Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources; HE Bilal Rabie Bilal Al Bodour, UAE Ambassador to Jordan; and Dr Ahmad Belhoul, CEO of Masdar. Built by the Jordan Wind Project Company (JWPC), the wind farm is a joint project of Masdar, InfraMed and EP Global Energy.

  • World’s largest offshore wind farm produces first power

    The 630MW scheme, located in the Thames Estuary, will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm. The development has been under construction since March 2011 and 151 of the 175 turbines have now been installed, with construction on schedule to be finished by the end of the year.

  • UAE puts energy-water-food-climate nexus on UN agenda at ongoing climate negotiations

    The United Arab Emirates today hosts COP18’s central discussion of the energy-water-food-climate nexus, in cooperation with New York University. The panel, “It Never Rains in the GCC,” had identified priority government interventions in the market to manage the nexus as its global significance intensities. Held as part of the UNFCCC climate change negotiations in Doha and moderated by Chatham House, the panel brings together experts from the OECD, World Economic Forum, Global Water Partnership, Qatar Foundation, Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, New York University, and UN Food and Agriculture Organization.

  • Prime Minister David Cameron inaugurates world’s largest offshore wind farm

    London Array, the 630MW offshore wind farm located in the Outer Thames Estuary, first started generating power in October 2012. The 175th turbine was bought online in March 2013 and London Array is now celebrating the completion and full operation of the site, which could supply around 500,000 UK homes with electricity each year.

  • 100 MW Nur Navoi Solar Project

    In November 2019, Masdar signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Government Support Agreement (GSA) with the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan to design, finance, build and operate the country’s first public-private partnership (PPP) solar power plant.

  • FSM Solar in Pohnpei

    This project features solar PV systems on 11 government buildings. With a total installed capacity of 2.3MWp, it reduces annual diesel fuel consumption by 1.22 million liters and mitigates 3,220 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

  • Welkin Road Stockport

    The Welkin Road battery energy storage system (BESS) plant is situated in Stockport on a previously industrialized site, conforming to Masdar Arlington Energy’s strategy to house projects on land in need of redevelopment and regeneration. The 20MW/40Mwh plant will power 10,000 homes per day based upon two cycles per day. It is expected to become operational in Q2 2025.

  • Royle Barn Road Rochdale

    The Royle Barn Road battery energy storage system (BESS) plant is situated in Rochdale on a previously industrialized site, conforming to Masdar Arlington Energy’s strategy to house projects on land in need of redevelopment and regeneration. The 35MW/70Mwh plant will power 15,900 homes per day based upon two cycles per day. It is expected to become operational in Q2 2027.

  • Green Barbuda project

    Masdar has implemented a hurricane-resistant clean energy plant in Antigua and Barbuda that contributes to Antigua and Barbuda's goal of producing 15 percent of its electricity needs from renewable sources by 2030. The project includes an 800kW diesel power plant and a 720kWh hybrid solar power plant, as well as an 863kWh battery system to store excess electricity generated.

  • 7000 Solar Home Systems

    Masdar has helped bring electricity to nearly 7,000 homes and other community buildings in remote areas of Al Wadi Al Jadeed, Aswan, Luxor, Matruh, Qena and Sohag governorates of Egypt. 

  • Mauritania Rural Electrification Programme

    Masdar installed 16.6MW of photovoltaic (PV) projects across eight remote communities in Mauritania. Inaugurated in November 2016, the 16.6MW PV rural electrification programme was funded by the governments of Mauritania and Abu Dhabi.

  • Khobab

    The Khobab Wind Farm was contracted under the South African Government’s Round 3 Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme, achieving commercial operation in December 2017.

  • Nur-Bukhara PV

    In April 2023, Masdar signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Government Support Agreement (GSA) with the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan to design, finance, build and operate the Nur Bukhara 250MW solar and 63MW/126MWh battery storage project.
