Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; January 16, 2019 – The German Embassy to the UAE and Masdar City are hosting a photographic exhibition at Masdar City to highlight the transformation of Germany’s energy system. The exhibition titled ‘Energiewende’ – meaning energy transition – explains how the German energy transition is taking place and how the country is shifting its energy supply to renewables, making the industry more secure, affordable and sustainable.

World’s largest offshore wind farm produces first power
The 630MW scheme, located in the Thames Estuary, will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm. The development has been under construction since March 2011 and 151 of the 175 turbines have now been installed, with construction on schedule to be finished by the end of the year.

UAE puts energy-water-food-climate nexus on UN agenda at ongoing climate negotiations
The United Arab Emirates today hosts COP18’s central discussion of the energy-water-food-climate nexus, in cooperation with New York University. The panel, “It Never Rains in the GCC,” had identified priority government interventions in the market to manage the nexus as its global significance intensities. Held as part of the UNFCCC climate change negotiations in Doha and moderated by Chatham House, the panel brings together experts from the OECD, World Economic Forum, Global Water Partnership, Qatar Foundation, Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, New York University, and UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
