Masdar Achieves Financial Close of London Array Project

Masdar Energy UK, a wholly owned subsidiary of Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, today announced the completion of a 12 year limited-recourse project financing of up to £266 million for its stake in phase one of London Array. Turbine installation complete at London Array

With all turbines in place and 55 connected and supplying power to the national grid, the wind farm is on track to be fully operational in Spring 2013. The wind farm has been generating energy since October 2012 when the first turbine began producing power.

WEC and Masdar Sign Patronship Agreement to Address Global Sustainable Energy Access

The World Energy Council (WEC) and Masdar have signed a Patronship Agreement, announced on the sidelines of COP21 in Paris. The WEC is a global multi-energy non-profit organisation that promotes the sustainable supply and use of energy and has an exclusive Patronship programme with 50 of the world’s leading energy companies. Patronship companies are members of the Council who commit to engage with WEC on global issues and projects. The agreement was signed by Masdar CEO, Dr Ahmad Belhoul and Marie-Jose Nadeau, Chair of the WEC.

Masdar’s CEO Receives Mauritania’s Order of National Merit Medal

Yesterday, His Excellency Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, prime minister of Mauritania, presented His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO of Masdar, with Mauritania’s Order of National Merit Medal. This is one of the most prestigious honours given by the President of Mauritania. Masdar City Welcomes Heritage Walk Women for Final Night of Their Trek from Al Ain to Abu Dhabi

A group of 30 women participating in the Heritage Walk from Al Ain to Abu Dhabi camped in Masdar City last night. Held under the patronage of Sheikha Shaikha bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, the 140 kilometre trek pays tribute to UAE history, when Emirati families regularly made the trip from Al Ain to Abu Dhabi. The Heritage Walk culminates today in Al Bateen after the sixth and final night in Masdar City, one of the world’s most sustainable urban developments.

Prime Minister David Cameron inaugurates world’s largest offshore wind farm

London Array, the 630MW offshore wind farm located in the Outer Thames Estuary, first started generating power in October 2012. The 175th turbine was bought online in March 2013 and London Array is now celebrating the completion and full operation of the site, which could supply around 500,000 UK homes with electricity each year.
