Masdar CEO discusses future of energy at Siemens Energy Middle East Partner Day

The energy mix will need to shift toward clean-energy sources as countries look to deliver sustainable recovery post-COVID-19, Masdar Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Al Ramahi said at the first Siemens Energy Middle East Partner Day. 

“We believe we are at a pivotal moment as we look to reboot economies and accelerate the clean energy transition and move to a more sustainable future – a move made more pressing due to COVID-19,” Al Ramahi said at the virtual event, Siemens Energy’s first partner conference in the region since its launch as a separate company in April. 

With demand for energy expected to continue increasing to meet the needs of expanding populations and economies, “I am confident we will continue to see a shift in the energy mix in favor of clean energy sources,” he told the audience, which included representatives from Siemens Energy partners across 16 countries. 

He also addressed the issue of decarbonization at the event, declaring that electrification is emerging as the “new megatrend” across multiple industries to reduce emissions.  

Abu Dhabi’s setting of a sustainable-energy target for Masdar City is now being followed by other cities in the region, Al Ramahi said, citing Dubai’s ambition to have the lowest carbon footprint in the world.
