Masdar-EDF Renewables-Nesma consortium reaches financial close and starts construction on 300 MW solar project in Saudi Arabia
The consortium led by Masdar and EDF Renewables, both global leaders in renewable energy, and Nesma Company, announced today it has reached financial close on a 300-megawatt (MW) utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) solar power plant in Jeddah and is starting construction.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; witnessed the signing of an agreement between the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority PJSC (DEWA) and Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, to build and operate the 1,800 megawatt (MW) sixth phase of the landmark Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, costing up to AED5.51 billion.

Ecothon Plus competition winners announced at the World Energy Congress
Masdar has awarded the winners of the Ecothon Plus competition at the World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi. The competition was held as part of Masdar’s Future Sustainability Leaders programme. In collaboration with the UAE Emirates Red Crescent, the Ecothon aimed to provide energy-efficient solutions for the UAE-Jordanian Refugee Camp in Marajeeb Al Fhood, Jordan. The camp is operated by Emirates Red Crescent Society and provides humanitarian aid to over 4,000 refugees.

Solar and wind account for 67% of New Power Capacity Added Worldwide in 2019: BNEF
Solar and wind power accounted for over two-thirds of the 265GW of new capacity installed worldwide in 2019, up from less than a quarter of new build in 2010, according to data from BloombergNEF. Photovoltaics (PV) topped all other technologies in new-build terms, with a record 118 gigawatts constructed, and was the most popular technology deployed in a third of nations, the research company said.
