Saudi Arabia’s first wind farm will transform Kingdom’s renewable energy sector, says NESMA executive

Saudi Arabia’s first wind farm, Dumat Al Jandal, is set to transform the Kingdom’s renewable energy sector, attendees of the fourth Instagram Live series, Masdar Talks, heard.

John Sitler, Manager, Bids at Masdar, was joined by Amaan Lafayette, CEO of NESMA Renewables Group who spoke about the development of the wind farm, which will be the largest in the Middle East upon completion.

The development of the wind farm is an important milestone for the Kingdom’s National Renewable Energy Program, which is a long term, strategic initiative that directly supports Vision 2030, Lafayette told attendees.

Providing an update on the project progress, which began construction this year, Lafayette said the farm’s 99 wind turbines are currently being transported across the Kingdom to the project site.

When complete, the wind farm will power 70,000 homes, which Sitler highlighted makes it an integral part of the community that will contribute to the education around renewable energy.

Masdar, together with partners NESMA and EDF Renewables, is developing the 400-megawatt wind farm, which is located in the Al Jouf region.
