Masdar-led joint venture agrees financing for largest wind farm in Serbia
Financing for one of the largest wind power projects in mainland Europe has been agreed by the project’s shareholders and lenders at a ceremony in the Serbian capital of Belgrade. Due for completion in the first half of 2019, the 158 megawatt (MW) capacity Čibuk 1 wind farm will be the largest utility-scale commercial wind project in Serbia and the Western Balkans.

Mexican President Visits Masdar City During ADSW 2016
His Excellency Enrique Peña Nieto, President of Mexico, yesterday paid a special visit to Masdar City – Masdar’s greenprint for one of the world’s most sustainable urban developments. He was received by Dr Ahmad Belhoul, Masdar’s CEO, who outlined Masdar’s role in constantly pushing the boundaries to keep improving the commercial viability of renewable energy, while simultaneously diversifying Abu Dhabi’s economy and extending the Emirate’s leadership in the energy sector.

Ban Ki-moon Launching UN’s International Year of Sustainable Energy for All at WFES
The Secretary-General’s return to Abu Dhabi underscores the importance he places on energy issues, most notably his new Sustainable Energy for All Initiative. The Secretary-General has set three objectives for his Initiative to be achieved by 2030: ensure universal access to modern energy services; double the rate of improvement in energy efficiency; and double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.

GRI to hold regional launch of new global sustainability reporting standards
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), an international independent organization that has pioneered corporate sustainability reporting since 1997, will hold the regional launch of the new GRI Standards in Abu Dhabi on 19th September 2017. The launch event is being hosted by Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, Masdar, is sponsored by Union National Bank and has been organized in partnership with Sustainability Excellence.

This year’s EE Global Forum was the fifth annual gathering of discussions on how to increase energy efficiency through technological breakthroughs and policy advances. Masdar City was selected by the Forum’s International Steering Committee, comprising of high-level energy efficiency professionals from across the world, including: President of Schneider Electric U.S., Jeff Drees; United States Senate members Mark Warner and Jeanne Shaheen; Senior Vice President and Global Head, Efficiency and Sustainability, Building Technology, Siemens Industry Inc, Robert J. Dixon; and US House of Representatives members Edward Markey and Paul Tonko. IFC appointed to oversee funding of Jordan’s largest solar power project

Masdar Announces Fifth Annual ‘Engage’ Social Media Contest Winner
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, has announced the winner of its fifth annual Engage Social Media Contest. This year’s contest received 130 entries, a record level of participation in the five years of this competition, with submissions coming from 45 nations across six continents. For the first time, the contest welcomed submissions in formats other than blogging posts, which led to entries that included videos, slideshows and Tumblr updates.
