New Zealand Partners with UAE to Boost Solar Power in the Solomon Islands
The United Arab Emirates and New Zealand has signed an arrangement for the development of a jointly funded 1 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the Solomon Islands. Both countries share a common interest in the rapid deployment of renewable energy in developing countries, particularly in the Pacific region, and signed a renewable energy partnership arrangement in January 2014.

UAE Foreign Minister Visits Masdar-Built Solar Plant in Mauritania
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the Masdar-built Sheikh Zayed Solar Power Plant in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania’s capital city, Nouakchott, while on a state visit to the country on 21 October 2015. He was accompanied by Mauritanian Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Mining Mohammed Salem Ould Al Bashirand His Excellency Eisa Abdullah Al Kalbani, UAE Ambassador to Mauritania.

UAE Energy Minister Visits Masdar
“With our demand for energy rising, it’s time to seriously consider an integrated, national energy policy to balance the sources of power we rely on,” said UAE Energy Minister H.E. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei. “We must diversify the energy mix, which includes promoting renewable energy, nuclear and continuing to advance our hydrocarbon industry. Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his delegation from the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh visited Masdar City today. They met senior members of Masdar City’s management, and were given a guided tour to showcase the city as an example of sustainability and urban planning best practices. World’s largest offshore wind farm produces first power
The 630MW scheme, located in the Thames Estuary, will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm. The development has been under construction since March 2011 and 151 of the 175 turbines have now been installed, with construction on schedule to be finished by the end of the year.

Cirata Floating Photovoltaic FPV Plant
In January 2020, Masdar signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with PT PLN Nusantara Renewables, a subsidiary of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) (PLN), the state-owned electricity company in Indonesia. The agreement was to build Southeast Asia’s largest floating solar power plant.

Sherabad Solar Project
In August 2021, Masdar signed an agreement with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan and JSC National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan to design, finance, build and operate a 457-megawatt (MW) utility-scale solar PV project in the Surkhandarya Region of Uzbekistan. This project reached full capacity in 2024, with commercial operation expected to commence in 2026.
