Oman’s Dhofar Wind Farm produces first kilowatt hour of electricity
The landmark wind farm, which is fully funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), the leading national entity for international development aid, was successfully connected to Oman’s electricity transmission grid last week during the commissioning of the project’s first wind turbine, which is now supplying clean power. The remaining 12 wind turbines will be commissioned, tested and connected to the grid in sequence, ensuring the start of commercial operations before the end of 2019.

Lighting up Australian Antarctic station with solar
Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, and the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) have successfully installed the first solar panel system at an Australian Antarctic station, it was announced today. The solar installation will provide up to 30 kW of electric power to the Casey research station, located on Vincennes Bay in the Windmill Islands, just outside the Antarctic Circle, during the Austral summer months. The aim of the project, which is the first solar array providing power to an Australian Antarctic research station, is to reduce the reliance on diesel fuel, which is delivered yearly by the AAD’s Antarctic icebreaker, the Aurora Australis, from Hobart, Tasmania – a journey of 3,443km.

New Zealand Partners with UAE to Boost Solar Power in the Solomon Islands
The United Arab Emirates and New Zealand has signed an arrangement for the development of a jointly funded 1 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the Solomon Islands. Both countries share a common interest in the rapid deployment of renewable energy in developing countries, particularly in the Pacific region, and signed a renewable energy partnership arrangement in January 2014.

Through the UAE-PPF’s two cycles of financing provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, renewable energy projects have been delivered to 11 Pacific Island nations by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company.

Solar Impulse Completes Historic Transatlantic Crossing
Solar Impulse 2 touched down in Europe early this morning after completing its historic journey across the Atlantic Ocean. The plane landed in Seville, Spain, just 60 kilometres west of the Gemasolar Thermosolar Plant, a solar thermal plant backed by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company and host partner of Solar Impulse.

Yesterday, His Excellency Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, prime minister of Mauritania, presented His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO of Masdar, with Mauritania’s Order of National Merit Medal. This is one of the most prestigious honours given by the President of Mauritania. Masdar Sends Competition Winners on Helicopter Ride over Shams 1 and Masdar City
The tour first provided a birds-eye view of the Shams 1 power project, located in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi. The 100-megawatt power plant generates enough energy to power 20,000 homes and displace 175,000 tons of CO2. The winners then flew back to Abu Dhabi and observed the progress at Masdar City, the growing, low-carbon sustainable urban development.

United Arab Emirates Now Ranks Third Among World Nations in Total Concentrated Solar Power Capacity
