Solar Impulse 2 Arrives in Abu Dhabi
Solar Impulse 2 (Si2), the world’s first solar-powered plane able to fly day and night without a drop of fuel, arrived in Abu Dhabi by cargo plane from Switzerland. Si2’s crew of 80 technicians, engineers and a communications team will spend the next week re-assembling the giant plane and readying it for public display this month at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) in advance of its March take-off on its round-the-world flight.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) is the first major event of 2015 reinforcing the UAE’s ‘Year of Innovation’ – a federal initiative promoting innovation as a strategic pathway to strengthen the country’s economy and global competitiveness. The yearly platform, January 17-24, directly supports the federal innovation strategy by promoting technology and attracting investment in priority sectors, including renewable energy, transportation, water and education.

German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel Visits Masdar
Sigmar Gabriel, German vice chancellor and minister for economic affairs and energy, and a delegation of senior officials yesterday visited Masdar. The delegation also toured Masdar City, one of the world’s most sustainable urban developments, and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in a visit that underscores the alignment between the UAE and Germany on the importance of developing and adopting clean technology and renewable energy.

His Holiness Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, and leader of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, visited Masdar City today. UAE’s first waste-to-energy project receives landmark award for first-of-its-kind financing loan
Bee’ah, the Middle East’s sustainability pioneer, and Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, were recognized as the winners of the Structured Loan Deal of the Year Award at the Bonds, Loans & Sukuk Middle East Awards for their financing of the UAE’s first waste-to-energy project. Dudgeon wind farm signs publicly rated landmark project refinancing of GBP1.4 billion
The owners of the Dudgeon wind farm, Equinor, Masdar and China Resources Group have announced the signing of a hybrid refinancing that includes approximately GBP561 million of commercial bank debt and GBP706 million of senior secured notes privately placed with institutional investors, finally maturing in 2032. Both tranches have been oversubscribed, underpinning strong investor interest. The A- (EXP) rating by Fitch reflects efficient operations and robust asset performance.

Zayed Sustainability Prize 2020 submissions up 13 per cent
Following its 11th annual awards ceremony, held in January, the Zayed Sustainability Prize, the UAE's pioneering global award in sustainability, entered a four-month submissions phase for the 2020 awards, which closed on 30th May with a record 2,373 completed submissions; a 13 per cent increase over the previous year.
