Pope Tawadros II Visits Masdar City
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, and leader of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, visited Masdar City today. Accompanied by his H.E. the Ambassador of Egypt, Ehab Hamouda, the leader of all Egyptian Coptics was given a guided tour by Yousif Al Ali, General Manager of Shams Power Company.
“We’re very pleased that we had the chance to visit Masdar City. We found the important research that the professors and students are conducting at Masdar Institute enlightening,” said His Holiness. “Masdar City is an inspiring example of a future sustainable city that depends on renewable energy such as solar while promoting a research and development culture for future generations. I commend our brothers in the United Arab Emirates for this bold vision and leadership, and I wish to see more examples like this in Egypt and all of the countries in the region.
I call on the younger generations to concentrate on obtaining knowledge and education so they can work towards even greater innovation and creativity in the renewable energy sector as humanity should learn how to live in harmony with nature,” added His Holiness.
Masdar City aims to be one of the most sustainable cities on the planet. It is home to the advanced graduate school, Masdar Institute, as well as a clean technology business cluster hosting over 130 companies. By integrating passive and intelligent design, Masdar City is designed and operated to provide residents the highest quality of life with the lowest possible environmental footprint.
