Masdar and France Sign Joint Declaration to Cooperate on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund announces major projects in five countries
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) today announced the first five projects under the US$50 million UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund (the Fund) across Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. First Startup Accelerator in Middle East Focused on Sustainability and Clean Tech Launched by Masdar
Today, as part of Masdar’s Innovation Week activities, Masdar, BP and Masdar Institute launched The Catalyst, the region’s first technology startup accelerator focused on sustainability and clean tech. The Catalyst, which is supported by USD 5 million in funding from BP, will help startups accelerate their business through funding, training and mentorship. Launched on the first day of Innovation Week with a high-level panel session attended by Minister of State and Chairman of Masdar HE Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, The Catalyst promotes innovation, entrepreneurship and the development of a knowledge-based economy in Masdar City and Abu Dhabi, in line with the UAE’s National Innovation Strategy.

Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), Masdar and Khalifa University of Science and Technology
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), a Saudi Government Corporation responsible for power generation and supplying various regions in the Kingdom with desalinated water, and the Abu Dhabi-based Khalifa University of Science and Technology, represented by Masdar Institute, to accelerate the development and commercialization of sustainable desalination technologies needed to enhance regional water security. Global “H20 Minus C02” Desalination Alliance Convenes First Meeting at ADSW 2016
The Global Clean Water Desalination Alliance (GCWDA) held its first meeting on 19 January during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The Masdar-led “H20 minus C02” Alliance was founded on 5 December on the sidelines of the Paris climate change negotiations (COP 21). The Alliance aims to bring together key water desalinationand clean energy stakeholders with the goal to reduce the CO2 emissions of the world’s water desalination. Organisations from 23 countries are members of the Alliance, including the United States, China, Korea, Japan and several European countries.
