How sustainable technology will help Sharjah turn waste into energy

IRENA Global Headquarters Building at Masdar City is Completed
Masdar today announced the completion of the IRENA Global Headquarters complex, which is almost fully leased and will be the permanent home of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), as well as other commercial tenants. Located in Masdar City – Abu Dhabi’s low-carbon, sustainable urban development – IRENA will officially move in by the end of the first quarter 2015.

Masdar to Deliver 12MW of Solar Power in Mauritania
Masdar today signed a contract with Mauritania’s Ministry of Petroleum, Energy, and Mines, to deliver seven solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, with a total capacity of 12 megawatts, providing access to clean and reliable energy to seven towns across the country. Completion of all the projects is expected by the first quarter of 2016.

WEC and Masdar Sign Patronship Agreement to Address Global Sustainable Energy Access
The World Energy Council (WEC) and Masdar have signed a Patronship Agreement, announced on the sidelines of COP21 in Paris. The WEC is a global multi-energy non-profit organisation that promotes the sustainable supply and use of energy and has an exclusive Patronship programme with 50 of the world’s leading energy companies. Patronship companies are members of the Council who commit to engage with WEC on global issues and projects. The agreement was signed by Masdar CEO, Dr Ahmad Belhoul and Marie-Jose Nadeau, Chair of the WEC.

Masdar and China Vanke Co. Ltd. Sign Memorandum of Understanding
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, and China Vanke Co. Ltd. (Vanke), the Masdar Institute, BGI and China Merchants New Energy Group Limited (CMNE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for collaboration on potential projects in both the UAE and China. The signing took place during an Official Visit to the People’s Republic of China by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Masdar, EDF Renewables and Nesma Renewable Energy Win Bid for 1,100MW Solar IPP Project in Saudi Arabia
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, EDF Renewables and Nesma Company have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) to develop the 1,100 MW Al Henakiyah solar power plant. Once operational, it is expected that the project will power more than 190 thousand homes per year and displace more than 1.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
