Serbian wind project wins award
Masdar's Wind Farm project in Serbia, Čibuk 1, has been named as the European Onshore Wind award winner at the prestigious IJGlobal Awards 2018 held in London, UK.
The awards ceremony celebrates the best-in-class transactions to have closed over the past year, across the international infrastructure and energy sectors. The awards also recognise the organisations that play central roles in these deals and their excellence in the delivery of challenging deals.
Vetroelektrane Balkana (WEBG), the project company behind Čibuk 1, is wholly-owned by Tesla Wind, a joint venture between Masdar, Taaleri Energia and DEG, deploying the largest utility-scale commercial wind farm project in Serbia.
“What we’ve accomplished in partnership with our shareholders and stakeholders in Serbia is a testament to the expertise and track record of our shareholders and the exemplary and persistent efforts of the WEBG team,” said Ahmed Al Awadi, General Manager, Serbia, Masdar. “Achieving this award for Serbia’s largest wind farm illustrates the bankability of renewable energy technology in the Balkans and the important role that strong partnerships play in unlocking access to renewable energy.”
The 158MW wind farm in Dolovo, comprising 57 wind turbines, is expected to provide electricity to 113,000 homes and displace more than 370,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
A delegation led by Bader Al Lamki, Executive Director, Clean Energy, received the award at the National History Museum in London.
Also this month, Masdar and Bee’ah announced that their joint project, the Sharjah Waste to Energy Facility, was recognised as the Waste Deal of the Year, for the Middle East and North Africa region, at the IJGlobal Awards 2018 in Dubai.
