Global CCS Institute Opens First Regional Headquarters at Masdar City
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; 30th August 2022: Masdar City, the regional home of technology innovation and R&D in Abu Dhabi, has announced the opening of the Global Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Institute’s first Middle East headquarters. The opening was attended by the Institute’s global CEO, Jarad Daniels, who was visiting the region as part of a five-day tour, accompanied by the Institute’s Head of the MENA Region, Dr Mohammed Abu Zahra, and General Manager of Client Engagement, Jeff Erikson.

Siemens Headquarters Chosen for Top Architectural Award
The jury explained their decision for selecting the Siemens headquarters in Masdar City, one of the integrated units of Masdar, saying: "This is a thorough investigation of the design of large floorplate space in an extreme climate, with a well-explained proposition emerging. The ambition for a LEED Platinum rating means the project will be followed by many designers and clients with great interest."

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; witnessed the signing of an agreement between the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority PJSC (DEWA) and Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, to build and operate the 1,800 megawatt (MW) sixth phase of the landmark Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, costing up to AED5.51 billion.

Masdar more than doubles clean energy capacity over 2 years generating enough electricity to power over 4 million homes
Masdar has released its 2020 Annual Sustainability Report that revealed it more than doubled its clean energy capacity over two years to generate enough electricity to power over four million homes. The capacity of the renewable energy projects that Masdar is a partner in has risen to over 10.7 GW in 2020 from 4 GW in 2019, with the company’s global operating clean energy portfolio displacing close to 6.5 million metric tons of CO2 annually.
