UAE Looks to Strengthen Economic Ties With China in Bilateral Talks
Major Gen Omar al Bitar Opportunities to strengthen economic ties between the United Arab Emirates and China, were the focus of talks during a two-day visit to China by UAE minister of state H.E Dr. Sultan Al Jaber. The visit is expected to lay the ground work for increased economic activity between the UAE and China which is growing at more than 14 per cent annually. Discussions explored opportunities for collaboration and investment across sectors of mutual interest, including energy, infrastructure and technology.

DEWA signs with Masdar to implement 800MW 3rd phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced today the selected bidder for the 800 megawatt (MW) third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which will be constructed based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. HE Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of State, and Chairman of Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, was present. The selected bidder for the project is a Masdar-led consortium including the Spanish companies FRV (Fotowatio Renewable Ventures) and Gransolar Group. The consortium bid a Levelised Cost of Electricity (LCOE), of 2.99 US cents per kilowatt hour (kW/h).

Delegation from Central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh Visits Masdar City
Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his delegation from the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh visited Masdar City today. They met senior members of Masdar City’s management, and were given a guided tour to showcase the city as an example of sustainability and urban planning best practices. Prior to the tour, the delegation received a comprehensive briefing from Masdar executives, including Mr. Mohammed Al Ramahi, Chief Operating Officer of Masdar, Mr. Anthony Mallows, Director of Masdar City, and Ms. Mahra Khalid Al Quassimi, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications.

US Congressional Delegation Visits
A delegation of eight representatives from the United States Congress visited Masdar City on Sunday as part of a trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to participate in an educational and cultural exchange. In addition to official government meetings, the delegation, led by U.S. Congresswoman and Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Marcia L. The Petroleum Institute (PI) today launched the solar-powered car that will represent the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the inaugural Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge, January 15-19, sponsored by ADNOC and hosted by Masdar. The super-sleek, high-tech vehicle will compete against 20 international teams in a multi-day, timed road competition across 1,200 kilometres of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Masdar, ADFD and PUC partner to build solar power plant with battery storage in Seychelles

Solar Impulse 2 Arrives in Abu Dhabi
Solar Impulse 2 (Si2), the world’s first solar-powered plane able to fly day and night without a drop of fuel, arrived in Abu Dhabi by cargo plane from Switzerland. Si2’s crew of 80 technicians, engineers and a communications team will spend the next week re-assembling the giant plane and readying it for public display this month at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) in advance of its March take-off on its round-the-world flight.
