Abu Dhabi, UAE – 04 June, 2014: Masdar’s Shams I concentrated solar power (CSP) plant in Abu Dhabi catapulted the United Arab Emirates to its new ranking as thirdamong the world’s nations in both 2013 CSP technology investment and total CSP capacity.The UAE now ranks only behind Spain and the United States in total CSPgeneration; India and China round out the world’s top five.

DEWA signs with Masdar to implement 800MW 3rd phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced today the selected bidder for the 800 megawatt (MW) third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which will be constructed based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. HE Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of State, and Chairman of Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, was present. The selected bidder for the project is a Masdar-led consortium including the Spanish companies FRV (Fotowatio Renewable Ventures) and Gransolar Group. The consortium bid a Levelised Cost of Electricity (LCOE), of 2.99 US cents per kilowatt hour (kW/h).

The Festival at Masdar City will take place on January 19-20 guaranteeing a memorable final two days at this year’s Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Delegation from Central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh Visits Masdar City
Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his delegation from the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh visited Masdar City today. They met senior members of Masdar City’s management, and were given a guided tour to showcase the city as an example of sustainability and urban planning best practices. Prior to the tour, the delegation received a comprehensive briefing from Masdar executives, including Mr. Mohammed Al Ramahi, Chief Operating Officer of Masdar, Mr. Anthony Mallows, Director of Masdar City, and Ms. Mahra Khalid Al Quassimi, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications.

US Congressional Delegation Visits
A delegation of eight representatives from the United States Congress visited Masdar City on Sunday as part of a trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to participate in an educational and cultural exchange. In addition to official government meetings, the delegation, led by U.S. Congresswoman and Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Marcia L. THE PETROLEUM INSTITUTE LAUNCHES UAE TEAM’S ABU DHABI SOLAR CHALLENGE CAR
The Petroleum Institute (PI) today launched the solar-powered car that will represent the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the inaugural Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge, January 15-19, sponsored by ADNOC and hosted by Masdar. The super-sleek, high-tech vehicle will compete against 20 international teams in a multi-day, timed road competition across 1,200 kilometres of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge Launched
The Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge (ADSC), the first ever solar car competition to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was announced today. Navigating the entire country, the 1,200km ADSC will start and finish in Abu Dhabi and take place from the 16-19 January, 2015. The race will coincide with Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and end at the opening ceremony of the World Future Energy Summit.
