Cooperation Agreement to Support Renewable Energy Projects in 16 Caribbean Island Countries
Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), the leading national entity for development aid, has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, Masdar to finalise financing and to bolster collaboration in implementing projects within the framework of the ADFD-funded US$50 million UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund.

Masdar-led joint venture agrees financing for largest wind farm in Serbia
Financing for one of the largest wind power projects in mainland Europe has been agreed by the project’s shareholders and lenders at a ceremony in the Serbian capital of Belgrade. Due for completion in the first half of 2019, the 158 megawatt (MW) capacity Čibuk 1 wind farm will be the largest utility-scale commercial wind project in Serbia and the Western Balkans.

Al Waha Residence breaks ground at Masdar City
Another residential development has broken ground at Masdar City, Abu Dhabi’s flagship sustainable community, it was announced today. Due for completion by 2020, the 600-unit Al Waha Residences will comprise luxury studios and apartments in one-, two- and three-bedroom unique Sky-Home and Townhouse configurations designed to meet strict environmental standards.

Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), Masdar and Khalifa University of Science and Technology
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), a Saudi Government Corporation responsible for power generation and supplying various regions in the Kingdom with desalinated water, and the Abu Dhabi-based Khalifa University of Science and Technology, represented by Masdar Institute, to accelerate the development and commercialization of sustainable desalination technologies needed to enhance regional water security. The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the International Water Summit, a key event of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2018, the region’s largest gathering on sustainability.

Masdar Celebrates World Book Day
Students from Al Ezza School in Abu Dhabi saw their favourite tales come to life at a Storytelling Session held near the iconic Wind Tower in Masdar City. Masdar celebrated World Book Day by inviting local school children to a book reading event today. Popular fairytale characters read and performed stories out loud, while inviting and encouraging participation from the younger guests.

Zayed Future Energy Prize expands global reach in record year for entries
The Zayed Future Energy Prize has closed submissions for its 10th cycle with a record of 2,296 entries – a 37 percent increase compared to 2016. Nominations for the Large Corporation and Lifetime Achievement categories yielded 1,113 entries, while the remaining 1,183 submissions were for Small & Medium Enterprise, Non-Profit Organisation, and Global High Schools categories.

Masdar and ONEE Partner to Deliver Electricity to 940 Remote Villages in the Kingdom of Morocco
Masdar and Morocco’s Office National de l'Electricité et de l'Eau Potable (ONEE) have signed a partnership to design, supply and install 17,670 Solar Home Systems across 940 villages in the Kingdom of Morocco. When complete, the solar homes, along with broader electrification initiatives, will result in 99 percent of rural Morocco having access to energy by the end of 2017 – a critical resource that underpins economic development.

Masdar and Taaleri to launch a joint venture to accelerate wind and solar renewable energy development in Central and Eastern Europe
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 15 January, 2019 – Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, and Taaleri Energia, a Finnish wind and solar developer and fund manager, signed an agreement for the establishment of a joint venture with the aim of developing renewable energy projects in Central and Eastern Europe. The joint venture aims to build upon the success of Masdar and Taaleri’s ongoing activities in the Western Balkans by expanding their collaboration through the joint development of onshore wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) projects.

Public Art of the Sustainable City
When we think of renewable energy infrastructure, we often have in mind dark blue photovoltaic rectangles carpeting the landscape, or large three-blade horizontal axis wind turbines marching along mountain ridges or into the sea. We think about grid reliability and consumer cost per kilowatt-hour, or we think about the climate change apocalypse that we will impose on future generations if we fail to act swiftly enough.

Zayed Sustainability Prize winner pilots project at Masdar City
Following their win last year, at the Zayed Sustainability Prize’s 10th annual awards ceremony (formerly Zayed Future Energy Prize), Sunna Design has announced a partnership with Masdar City, in Abu Dhabi, to conduct a 12-month pilot scheme for its “iSSL Maxi 4” solar streetlights to undergo weather endurance monitoring.
