  • Global business and policy leaders gather for official opening of ADSW 2017

    Global leaders in government and business will gather for the official opening of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the UAE capital tomorrow. Taking place on the theme “Practical steps towards a sustainable future”, this year’s ADSW is expected to receive 38,000 attendees representing 175 countries, including five heads of state, more than 80 government ministers, and 880 exhibiting companies from 40 countries.

  • Masdar Awards Contracts for Advanced Energy-Efficient Desalination Pilot Project

    Abu Dhabi, UAE – 5 May, 2014: Masdar today awardedfour companies – Abengoa, Degrémont, Sidem/Veolia and Trevi Systems – withcontracts to each start the construction of a desalination plant as part ofMasdar’s pilot project in Abu Dhabi. First announced in January 2013, theproject aims to develop and demonstrate energy-efficient seawater desalinationtechnologies efficient enough to be powered by renewable energy. The newtechnologies are expected to allow the implementation of cost-competitivelarge-scale seawater desalination plants powered by renewable energy in the UAEand abroad.

  • Mauritania solar network passes 50% milestone

    Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s future energy company, today announced that it had passed the halfway mark in its project to construct a 16.6 MW solar power plant network in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Masdar broke ground on the project in December last year. When complete, the network of eight solar power plants will almost double the UAE’s contribution to Mauritania’s renewable energy capacity to a total of 31.6 MW.

  • Masdar concludes Power Purchasing Agreement to build Jordan’s largest solar power plant

    Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, has completed a key step in the development of the largest solar power plant in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Power Purchasing Agreement (PPA) for a 200-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic (PV) plant was signed today by Mohamed Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, and Abdul Fattah Daradkeh, Chief Executive Officer of National Electric Power Company, Jordan’s state electricity provider, at a ceremony in Amman attended by His Excellency Dr Hani Al Mulqi, Prime Minister of Jordan.

  • Masdar City’s PRT system celebrates milestone with 2 millionth passenger

    The Masdar City Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system celebrated its 6th anniversary on 28 November, just a week after carrying its 2 millionth passenger. The PRT’s driverless pods have covered a distance of more than 891,879 km on their transit route over the past six years, and have displaced CO2 emissions equivalent to running 53 cars for a whole year.

  • ​Masdar unveils locally manufactured all-electric Eco-Bus at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2018

    A template for future sustainable public transport solutions, the working prototype was jointly developed by Masdar and Abu Dhabi-based Hafilat Industry in collaboration with the Masdar Institute, part of Khalifa University of Science and Technology. Technology partner Siemens provided the bus’s engine giving the vehicle a range of 150 kilometres per charge while minimising the size and weight of its battery.

  • Dudgeon wind farm on track as first turbine begins delivering electricity

    Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, announced today that its second large-scale offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom has started supplying electricity to British homes. Around six thousand households are now receiving power from the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm after the project’s first turbine began operating today. Sixty-seven 6-megawatt (MW) turbines will be installed altogether, generating enough power to provide electricity to 400,000 homes.

    Masdar and ADCB employees celebrated the launch of Mamsha Masdar, a dedicated bicycle and fitness trail, and two new ADCB Bikeshare stations at Masdar City, with a bicycle ride round the renewable energy company’s flagship sustainable urban development. The event was attended by H.H. Sheikh Theyab Bin Khalifa Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan.
