Masdar and Statoil collaborate to explore potential of battery storage solution at Hywind Scotland
Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, has announced the signing of a collaborative agreement with Norwegian multinational oil and gas company Statoil to analyse data from “Batwind” – the integrated energy storage system designed to store energy generated by Hywind Scotland, the first commercial-scale floating wind farm that was inaugurated by the two companies last October – and explore the battery’s potential for further applications and business opportunities.

Masdar Awards Contracts for Advanced Energy-Efficient Desalination Pilot Project
Abu Dhabi, UAE – 5 May, 2014: Masdar today awardedfour companies – Abengoa, Degrémont, Sidem/Veolia and Trevi Systems – withcontracts to each start the construction of a desalination plant as part ofMasdar’s pilot project in Abu Dhabi. First announced in January 2013, theproject aims to develop and demonstrate energy-efficient seawater desalinationtechnologies efficient enough to be powered by renewable energy. The newtechnologies are expected to allow the implementation of cost-competitivelarge-scale seawater desalination plants powered by renewable energy in the UAEand abroad.

Mauritania solar network passes 50% milestone
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s future energy company, today announced that it had passed the halfway mark in its project to construct a 16.6 MW solar power plant network in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Masdar broke ground on the project in December last year. When complete, the network of eight solar power plants will almost double the UAE’s contribution to Mauritania’s renewable energy capacity to a total of 31.6 MW.

Masdar concludes Power Purchasing Agreement to build Jordan’s largest solar power plant
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, has completed a key step in the development of the largest solar power plant in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Power Purchasing Agreement (PPA) for a 200-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic (PV) plant was signed today by Mohamed Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, and Abdul Fattah Daradkeh, Chief Executive Officer of National Electric Power Company, Jordan’s state electricity provider, at a ceremony in Amman attended by His Excellency Dr Hani Al Mulqi, Prime Minister of Jordan.

IFC appointed to oversee funding of Jordan’s largest solar power project
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, has selected International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, to oversee the funding of the largest solar power plant in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, a 200-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic facility being developed by the wholly owned Masdar subsidiary Baynouna Solar Energy Company (BSEC).

Three major solar projects inaugurated in the Caribbean
Three climate-resilient solar power projects in the Bahamas, Barbados, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are being inaugurated this week under the US$50 million UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund (UAE-CREF), the largest renewable energy initiative of its kind in the region. The fund is a partnership between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company).
