Abu Dhabi Prepares for the Arrival of Solar Impulse 2
Solar Impulse representatives have arrived in Abu Dhabi to meet with local authorities in beginning preparation for the plane’s arrival in January. With the historic flight scheduled to take off from Abu Dhabi next March, pilots of the Solar Impulse 2 (Si2) will conduct test flights and perform fine-tuning exercises this January, in preparation for the five month journey. The plane, and its two co-founders, will attempt to fly around the world – without a drop of fuel – only using the power of the sun.

Solar Impulse 2 Arrives in Abu Dhabi
Solar Impulse 2 (Si2), the world’s first solar-powered plane able to fly day and night without a drop of fuel, arrived in Abu Dhabi by cargo plane from Switzerland. Si2’s crew of 80 technicians, engineers and a communications team will spend the next week re-assembling the giant plane and readying it for public display this month at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) in advance of its March take-off on its round-the-world flight.

Masdar and European Investment Bank Working Together to Accelerate Renewable Energy Development in ME
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, today announced plans to collaborate with the European Investment Bank (EIB) – the financial arm of the European Union – to accelerate the development of clean energy projects in parts of the Middle East and North Africa. Global business and policy leaders gather for official opening of ADSW 2017
Global leaders in government and business will gather for the official opening of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the UAE capital tomorrow. Taking place on the theme “Practical steps towards a sustainable future”, this year’s ADSW is expected to receive 38,000 attendees representing 175 countries, including five heads of state, more than 80 government ministers, and 880 exhibiting companies from 40 countries.

Hundreds of runners to participate in Masdar City sponsored Environmental Marathon
Abu Dhabi’s sustainable urban community Masdar City will host an estimated 300 runners this Friday for the “Environmental Marathon” organised by Environment Friends Society. Open to men, women, children and people of determination, the 3km road race is free to enter and perfect preparation for the Special Olympics XI MENA taking place in the UAE later this month. World’s first commercial-scale floating offshore wind farm on its way to Scotland
The first of five turbines for the Hywind Scotland commercial-scale floating offshore wind farm has now sailed away (date 17/07/2017) from Stord in Norway to its final destination, Buchan Deep, 25 km east of Peterhead in Scotland. Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, announced that it had acquired a 25% stake in the Hywind Scotland project during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in January.

With water security becoming one of the most imposing long-term challenges for many countries, the Global Clean Water Alliance – H2O minus CO2 launches in Paris as a collaborative global climate initiative and one of the key components to the Lima Paris Action Plan.
