Three major solar projects inaugurated in the Caribbean
Three climate-resilient solar power projects in the Bahamas, Barbados, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are being inaugurated this week under the US$50 million UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund (UAE-CREF), the largest renewable energy initiative of its kind in the region. The fund is a partnership between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company).

Masdar Delivers Samoa’s First Wind Farm
The Samoan Prime Minister, the Honorable Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi, today inaugurated the country’s first wind farm. Delivered by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, the 550 kWe project is the second completed under the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) $50 million Pacific Partnership Fund, which is managed by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). The inauguration ceremony comes two days before the start of the United Nations’ Third Conference on Small Island Developing States1, in Samoa’s capital.

World’s first commercial-scale floating offshore wind farm on its way to Scotland
The first of five turbines for the Hywind Scotland commercial-scale floating offshore wind farm has now sailed away (date 17/07/2017) from Stord in Norway to its final destination, Buchan Deep, 25 km east of Peterhead in Scotland. Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, announced that it had acquired a 25% stake in the Hywind Scotland project during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in January.

Zayed Future Energy Prize Invites Entries to 10th Year
The 10th cycle of the Zayed Future Energy Prize is open for entries, it was announced earlier today. Submissions from eligible entrants are invited in the Small and Medium Enterprise, Non-Profit Organisation and Global High Schools categories, while the Large Corporation and Lifetime Achievement categories are open to nominations from the public. US$50m UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund in Talks with 6 Caribbean Countries

Masdar Reveals Winner of Third International Blogging Contest themed ‘Describe Your City in 2030’

The contest received 106 entries from 40 countries, all of which creatively described the ideal, sustainable city of the future. The collective entries drove thousands of people to Masdar’s website to engage in a digital dialogue – an exchange of ideas – about how the world’s urban centers can become bastions of sustainability, cities that offer a place to live, work and play without undue environmental impact.
