Mauritania solar network passes 50% milestone
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s future energy company, today announced that it had passed the halfway mark in its project to construct a 16.6 MW solar power plant network in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Masdar broke ground on the project in December last year. When complete, the network of eight solar power plants will almost double the UAE’s contribution to Mauritania’s renewable energy capacity to a total of 31.6 MW.

Phase 3 of MBR Solar Park in Dubai wins Solar Project of the Year 2018 at the Asian Power Awards
The third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MBR) Solar Park in Dubai has been awarded Solar Project of the Year 2018 at the Asian Power Awards in Jakarata. Ian Warrilow, President and Country Manager of Mubadala Petroleum, accepted the award on behalf of Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), a partner in Shua’a Energy 2, the project company developing Phase 3.

IFC appointed to oversee funding of Jordan’s largest solar power project
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, has selected International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, to oversee the funding of the largest solar power plant in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, a 200-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic facility being developed by the wholly owned Masdar subsidiary Baynouna Solar Energy Company (BSEC).

This year’s contest received 130 entries, a record level of participation in the five years of this competition, with submissions coming from 45 nations across six continents. Three major solar projects inaugurated in the Caribbean
Three climate-resilient solar power projects in the Bahamas, Barbados, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are being inaugurated this week under the US$50 million UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund (UAE-CREF), the largest renewable energy initiative of its kind in the region. The fund is a partnership between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company).

US Congressional Delegation Visits

Masdar Delivers Samoa’s First Wind Farm
The Samoan Prime Minister, the Honorable Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi, today inaugurated the country’s first wind farm. Delivered by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, the 550 kWe project is the second completed under the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) $50 million Pacific Partnership Fund, which is managed by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). The inauguration ceremony comes two days before the start of the United Nations’ Third Conference on Small Island Developing States1, in Samoa’s capital.
