Partners have agreed to bring the two projects under a joint ownership structure in one legal entity, subject to regulatory approvals being obtained before closing. The projects are extensions to the operational Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farms, which currently power around 710,000 UK homes.

The Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon offshore wind farm Extension Projects will be developed as a single project. By aligning the partnership to merge two joint ventures, a simplified and collaborative model will help unlock further opportunities whilst simultaneously derisking development for both generation and transmission.

Development consent approval for both projects was obtained in April 2024 which was the first time in the UK that two offshore wind projects under separate ownership were awarded consent under a shared application. The consent allowed for single, joint or sequential development options. The new ownership structure enables a cost-effective joint development of the two projects whilst minimising environmental and local impact in Norfolk, contributing positively to the UK’s ambition of delivering clean power by 2030.

Together with the operational Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon offshore wind farms, the Extension Project in Norfolk aims to power nearly 1.5 million UK homes and generate over £370 million in direct gross value added (GVA) to the East Anglia and UK economy.

The Dudgeon Extension Project is owned 35% by Equinor, 35% by Masdar and 30% by China Resources Power, whilst Sheringham Shoal Extension Project is currently 100% owned by Equinor, with Equitix Offshore 3 Limited (co-owned by funds managed by Equitix and The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG)) and Macquarie Asset Management (via Macquarie GIG Renewable Energy Fund 1) having options to acquire a total of 60% interests at Final Investment Decision (FID).

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, His Excellency Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has inaugurated the 500MW Zarafshan wind farm, the largest operating in Central Asia to date, developed by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, one of the world’s leading clean energy companies.

At the inauguration, HE President Mirziyoyev was joined by HE Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, COP28 President and Chairman of Masdar, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei and high-level government and state representatives for the Government of Uzbekistan.

Masdar has committed to invest USD2 billion in clean energy projects in Uzbekistan that have a total capacity of more than 2GW. In addition, Masdar has a pipeline of 4GW of renewables projects in the early stages of development.

Uzbekistan has ambitions to achieve 20GW of clean energy capacity by 2030 and Masdar is working to deliver some of Central Asia’s most important clean energy projects in the country, including the largest solar and wind farms in the region, and its first battery storage project.

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, the UAE’s clean energy powerhouse, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Financial Settlement Centre for Renewable Energy Sources Support LLP for its 1GW wind farm in the Jambyl region of Kazakhstan.

The signing took place on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku and was witnessed by Sungat Yessimkhanov, Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan and H.E. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy & Petroleum Affairs, Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates.

The agreement was signed by Abdulla Zayed, Director, Business and Project Development of Masdar and Gulzhan Nalibayeva, General Director of the Financial Settlement Centre for Renewable Energy Sources Support LLP.

It comes just days after Masdar signed the Investment Agreement for the project with the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan , which is set to be one of the largest wind farms in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region.

The wind farm is Masdar’s inaugural project in Kazakhstan, Central Asia's largest economy. It is located in the south of the country and features a 600-megawatt-hour (MWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Masdar is the lead developer for the 1GW project, along with W Solar, Qazaq Green Power (a Samruk-Kazyna Group company), and the Kazakhstan Investment Development Fund.

Construction of the wind farm is expected to commence by Q1 2026. When completed, it will provide power to approximately 300,000 homes in the south of Kazakhstan, avoiding 2 million tonnes of CO2e emissions per year.

Today’s announcement builds on a commitment the governments of the UAE and Kazakhstan made at COP28 to cooperate on developing Kazakhstan’s renewables sector. The wind farm will support Kazakhstan’s ambitions to increase renewables capacity to 15 percent of its energy supply by 2030 (and to 50 percent by 2050) and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, the UAE’s clean energy powerhouse, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SOCAR Green, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SOCAR dedicated to sustainable projects, and Saudi-listed ACWA Power, the world’s largest private water desalination company, leader in energy transition and first mover into green hydrogen, to develop 3.5 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind projects in the Azerbaijan section of the Caspian Sea.

The potential projects would be Azerbaijan’s first offshore wind farms. The agreement supports plans by Azerbaijan to develop renewable energy, green hydrogen and water desalination projects.

The MoU was signed by Rovshan Najaf, President of SOCAR, Abdulaziz Alobaidli, Chief Operating Officer of Masdar, and Marco Arcelli, Chief Executive Officer of ACWA Power. Under the agreement, the signing parties will follow a Corporation Roadmap to identify key development milestones they want to achieve in the development of offshore wind in the country.

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, the UAE’s clean energy powerhouse, and the Ministry of Energy Uzbekistan have signed an agreement to develop a 1-gigawatt (GW) wind farm in the Mingbulak region of the country.

This new wind farm will create 1,000 jobs during construction and 60 jobs during operation. Once completed, it will deliver clean energy to 300,000 homes in the region. The agreement further strengthens Masdar’s strategic partnership with Uzbekistan and marks the first phase of a broader strategy to establish three wind farms in the country.

The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku, witnessed by H.E. Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Chairman of Masdar, and COP28 President, and H.E. Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Uzbekistan Minister of Energy. In 2023 Masdar signed an Implementation Agreement to develop 2GW of new wind projects in Uzbekistan. In addition to the Mingbulak wind farm announced today, these will span two further sites including Akpetki in the country’s Karakalpakstan region and Buzaubay in its Navoiy region.

Signed on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku, the agreement was witnessed by H.E. Turbine installation has been successfully completed at the 476 MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm, a joint venture between Iberdrola, a world leading clean energy company, and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Com-pany – Masdar, the UAE’S clean energy powerhouse.

When fully operational, Baltic Eagle will supply around 475,000 households with renewable energy while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 800,000 tons per year.

The 50 installed wind turbines, each with a unit capacity of 9.53 MW, were supplied by Vestas and installed by the shipping company Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.

Baltic Eagle is the second of Iberdrola's three major wind farm projects in Germany, along with Wikinger (350 MW, in operation) and Windanker (315 MW, in planning). Collectively, these offshore wind farms form Iberdrola's Baltic Hub.

Baltic Eagle is Masdar’s first project with Iberdrola, its first in Germany and resulted in the company’s largest ever euro-denominated financing.

By 2026, Iberdrola’s Baltic Hub will have a total capacity of more than 1.1 GW and trigger investments of around €3.7 billion. The Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm is an important building block in the integrated growth strategy that Iberdrola is pursuing in the core German market. In the field of sustainable energy solutions, the company strives to work with key players in the German economy to support them in achieving their climate goals with market-based solutions.

A key element of this is Iberdrola's strategic partnership with Masdar. Masdar and Iberdrola signed a partnership to jointly invest in Baltic Eagle in July 2023. At COP28, the two companies announced a further €15 billion agreement to explore the joint development of offshore wind and green hydrogen projects in key markets such as Germany, the UK, and the US.

Masdar has a long-standing commitment to advancing offshore wind projects across the globe. It is aiming for a renewable energy portfolio capacity of 100GW by 2030, supporting the target set in the historic UAE Consensus to triple global renewables capacity by the end of this decade.

The UAE’s clean energy powerhouse, Masdar, and Infinity Power, have officially signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to deliver a long-term supply of renewable energy generated by a landmark onshore wind project, located in Ras Ghareb, Gulf of Suez region.

Once constructed, the wind farm will have a capacity of 200MW and is estimated to produce 810,000MWh per year. Consequentially, it is predicted to avoid 403,672 tonnes of CO2eq emissions per year, helping to support Egypt’s sustainability ambitions.

This venture will serve as the latest in a series of developments to expand Infinity Power’s portfolio. As the largest African renewable energy company, Infinity Power is targeting 10GW of operational renewable energy by 2030. This target will have the capability to provide electricity to 12 million homes across the African continent by the end of this decade and would contribute a further reduction of approximately 15 to 20 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

The official signing ceremony, held at the Egyptian Cabinet in Al-Alamein city, was witnessed by H.E. Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt and H.E. RWE and Masdar have achieved a key milestone for the DBS (Dogger Bank South) Offshore Wind Farms as the Development Consent Order (DCO) application has been accepted into the UK Planning Inspectorate examination phase.

The DBS East and DBS West offshore wind farms, which could provide electricity for up to three million typical UK homes*, are located in shallow waters on the Dogger Bank over 100km off the northeast coast of England. The acceptance of the DCO application moves the projects into the pre-examination phase, which will become subject to a public examination later in 2024.

Together, the projects will have up to 200 turbines with a combined estimated capacity of three gigawatts. Investment by RWE and Masdar during development and construction is predicted to deliver an economic contribution (Gross Value Added) to the UK of almost £1 billion, including £400 million in the Humber region.

RWE will be leading development, construction and operation on behalf of the project partners RWE (51% share) and Masdar (49% share). RWE entered into Agreements for Lease for the two DBS projects with The Crown Estate in January 2023. In December 2023, Masdar announced it had acquired a 49 percent stake in the DBS offshore wind projects. The shareholding agreement between the companies was finalized in February 2024.

The DBS projects will make an important economic contribution to the region, support the UK’s net zero ambitions, and boost its broader economic growth and energy security. The next steps for the projects, following a successful Development Consent Order, would be to secure Contracts for Difference (CfD), followed by financing and construction.

Berlin/UAE, 9 May 2024 – The first of a total of fifty wind turbines has been successfully installed at the 476MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm, a joint venture between Iberdrola, a world leading clean energy company, and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company – Masdar, the UAE’s clean energy powerhouse.

Working in partnership with Vestas , the remaining wind turbines will now be transported to the offshore construction site in the coming months and then installed using the jack-up vessel Blue Tern owned by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.

Baltic Eagle is on track to become operational by the end of 2024, when it will supply renewable energy to around 475,000 households and contribute to Germany’s clean energy transition.

Proven technology and tried-and-tested installation methods

The Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm will generate its green electricity from a total of 50 Vestas V174-9.5MW wind turbines, each with an output of 9.525 megawatts (MW). The wind turbines have a rotor diameter of 174 meters and a hub height of 107 meters.

The optimized rotor blades are each 85 meters long and have been designed to be aerodynamically efficient and to minimize loads. The finished turbines reach a total height of 194 meters.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier's jack-up vessel Blue Tern is particularly suitable for the challenging terrain in the Baltic Sea thanks to its long legs. With its 800-ton main crane and a variable deck load capacity of 8,750 tons, it transports the towers, nacelles and rotor blades to the offshore construction site and erects them on the transition pieces. Fred. Olsen Windcarrier already gained experience in the Baltic Sea during the construction of the Iberdrola offshore wind farm Wikinger.

Iberdrola's Baltic Hub

The Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm is an important part of Iberdrola's ‘Baltic Hub’ in the German Baltic Sea. It is located north-east of the island of Rügen off the coast of Pomerania and is planned and operated from the port of Mukran in Sassnitz.

Scheduled to be operational by the end of 2024, the 476MW offshore wind farm will supply around 475,000 households with renewable energy while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 800,000 tons per year.

Baltic Eagle is the second of three major projects in Germany, along with the Wikinger (350 MW, in operation) and Windanker (315 MW, in planning) wind parks. Collectively, these offshore wind parks form Iberdrola's so-called Baltic Hub, which will have a total capacity of more than 1.1 GW in 2026 and trigger an investment sum of about 3.7 billion euros.

The Baltic Eagle offshore wind park is an important component in the integrated growth strategy that Iberdrola is pursuing in its German core market. In the area of sustainable energy solutions, the company aims to cooperate with key players in the German economy to support them in achieving their climate targets with market-based solutions.

Iberdrola’s partnership with Masdar

Masdar and Iberdrola signed a strategic agreement in July 2023 to co-invest in Baltic Eagle. At COP28, the two companies announced a further EUR15 billion strategic partnership agreement to evaluate the joint development of offshore wind and green hydrogen projects in key markets including Germany, the UK and the US.
