Masdar supports greentech training program in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani students and government employees were given dedicated training in renewable energy sources through a two-day training program organized by Masdar, bp and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy. 

The Greentech Summer Camp 2021 was held both physically and online at the Gobustan Hybrid Power Plant, on July 7-8 through the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy. The program covered solar and wind energy, offshore wind energy, hydrogen energy, the production of “green hydrogen” by electrolysis, the basics of hydrogen fuel elements and the introduction of “green energy” technologies. 

“While Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates share the common heritage of having our economies built on oil and gas, today both our nations understand that investing in a diversified energy mix is not only the right ethical choice, but also sound economic strategy,” Husain Al Meer, General Manager, Asset Management and Technical Services, Masdar UK, said of the event. “The investments needed to mitigate climate change will help to grow and diversify Azerbaijan’s economy, build knowledge and skills, and contribute practical solutions to a global problem that affects us all. Masdar has taken an active role in addressing climate change since 2006 and we are honored to leverage the experience we have gained operating in more than 30 countries around the world to help Azerbaijan develop its own renewable energy industry, diversify its energy sources and drive sustainable development. 

Students of ADA University, Baku Higher Oil School, Azerbaijan Technical University and Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan, bp, Masdar, and "Azerenergy" OJSC attended the training program.
