Masdar highlights commitment to sustainability in 2019

Masdar has demonstrated its continued commitment to sustainability and corporate governance best practice with its latest sustainability report, which has been certified to Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and is now available on the Masdar website. 

The report highlights Masdar’s contribution to sustainability across the world. In 2019, Masdar’s utility-scale Clean Energy projects were responsible for displacing approximately 3.1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions and powering over 1.5 million homes. Over 26,900 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity was generated, with wind power projects such as London Array, Hywind and the Dhofar wind farm providing the largest share of energy.  

The exemplar environmental performance of Masdar City’s buildings are also covered in the report, with landmark buildings including the IRENA building, Siemens Middle East Headquarters, Incubator Building and Etihad Eco-Residence (phase 1) recording sustainability performance in cooling, electricity and water use between 29 per cent to 64 per cent lower than Abu Dhabi baselines.

The report covers a number of key areas including governance and performance, stakeholder engagement, training and development programmes, and health and safety. It also showcases the Masdar City’s research and development initiatives, as well as information related to the company’s supply chain code of conduct, strategic initiatives and start-up accelerator The Catalyst.
