  • Financial Close Reached for the First Utility-Scale Wind Farm in Jordan

    Jordan Wind Project Company (JWPC) today signed the financing agreement to begin construction of the Middle East’s first utility-scale wind-power project. Located in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the 117MW Tafila Wind Farm will increase the country’s total power capacity by 3%. The project will cost an estimated US$290 million.

    The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) has launched a two-year renewable energy training programme for Pacific Island countries financed by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), theleading national entity for development aid. The training is being led by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company.

  • DEWA signs with Masdar to implement 800MW 3rd phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park

    HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced today the selected bidder for the 800 megawatt (MW) third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which will be constructed based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. HE Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of State, and Chairman of Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, was present. The selected bidder for the project is a Masdar-led consortium including the Spanish companies FRV (Fotowatio Renewable Ventures) and Gransolar Group. The consortium bid a Levelised Cost of Electricity (LCOE), of 2.99 US cents per kilowatt hour (kW/h).

Built by the Jordan Wind Project Company (JWPC), the wind farm is a joint project of Masdar, InfraMed and EP Global Energy.
