H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, minister of state and chairman of Masdar, and Dr. Ahmad Belhoul, CEO of Masdar, also witnessed the unveiling.

Masdar Reveals Winner of Third International Blogging Contest themed ‘Describe Your City in 2030’
Abu Dhabi, UAE: 14 January, 2015 – Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, today announced the winner of its third annual Engage Blogging Contest. The contest received 106 entries from 40 countries, all of which creatively described the ideal, sustainable city of the future. The collective entries drove thousands of people to Masdar’s website to engage in a digital dialogue – an exchange of ideas – about how the world’s urban centers can become bastions of sustainability, cities that offer a place to live, work and play without undue environmental impact.

Annual Sustainability Festival to Return to Masdar City
The Festival at Masdar City is set to return for a third year, continuing Masdar’s tradition of hosting a weekend of fun-filled activities for the family at the end of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW). Running 22-23 January from 10am to 9pm, the Festival will welcome the community for an entertaining and educational program against the backdrop of one of the world’s most sustainable cities.

Join leaders to take climate action at the virtual ADSW Summit, part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week

The visitors were briefed on the technical features and specifications of the catamaran that runs solely on solar panels. Accompanied by its Captain and Master, Erwann Le Rouzic, PlanetSolar is the world’s largest solar powered boat and was docked in Abu Dhabi for the duration of the summit.

Masdar City receives ‘Visionaries’ Award at Energy Efficiency Global Forum, USA
This year’s EE Global Forum was the fifth annual gathering of discussions on how to increase energy efficiency through technological breakthroughs and policy advances. Masdar City was selected by the Forum’s International Steering Committee, comprising of high-level energy efficiency professionals from across the world, including: President of Schneider Electric U.S., Jeff Drees; United States Senate members Mark Warner and Jeanne Shaheen; Senior Vice President and Global Head, Efficiency and Sustainability, Building Technology, Siemens Industry Inc, Robert J. Dixon; and US House of Representatives members Edward Markey and Paul Tonko. The committee also comprised of several other prominent members from North America, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Latin Americas.

EWEC Announces Partners to Develop the World’s Largest Solar Power Plant
The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has announced the award for the development of the world’s largest solar power plant. The project was awarded to a consortium led by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and Masdar, with partners EDF and JinkoPower, to develop the 2 GW Al Dhafra Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Independent Power Producer (IPP) project, which will be located approximately 35 kilometers from Abu Dhabi city. The project’s power purchase agreement (PPA) and shareholders’ agreement were signed with EWEC.

KACARE Delegation visits Masdar City
Masdar officials hosted a delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE) at Masdar City and provided a guided tour of the world’s most sustainable urban development. The KACARE delegation began its two-day visit to Masdar City on August 26 with a series of briefings at the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

Masdar and Khalifa University to research sea ice and energy efficiency in Antarctica
Masdar, Khalifa University of Science and Technology, and the Australian government announced that they will collaborate on sea ice research and energy efficiency in Antarctica to enhance scientific understanding of the effects of global warming and climate change on the polar continent.
