UAE’s Ministry of Defence Strengthens its Environmental Credentials with Tabreed and Emerge
The UAE Ministry of Defence, in partnership with Tabreed, the world’s leading district cooling company, and Emerge, a joint venture between the UAE’s Masdar, a global clean energy leader, and France’s EDF Group, announced today the completion of a new project to integrate solar energy into two district cooling plants serving the Ministry’s facilities in Abu Dhabi.

100 MW Nur Navoi Solar Project

Yas Marina
The 1-megawatt peak (MWp) solar car park at Ethara’s Yas Marina Circuit, home to the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, generates approximately 30 percent of Yas Marina Circuit’s total annual energy demand, equivalent to powering nearly 200 Abu Dhabi households. Emerge is providing a comprehensive turnkey solution for the project, including finance, design, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance for 25 years.

Sherabad Solar Project
In August 2021, Masdar signed an agreement with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan and JSC National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan to design, finance, build and operate a 457-megawatt (MW) utility-scale solar PV project in the Surkhandarya Region of Uzbekistan. This project reached full capacity in 2024, with commercial operation expected to commence in 2026.

Yas Bay Waterfront
The 520kWp Yas Bay Waterfront development for Miral involved the installation of over 900 solar modules, equivalent to powering around 100 Abu Dhabi households and offsetting 425 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.
