Abu Dhabi Prepares for the Arrival of Solar Impulse 2

Solar Impulse representatives have arrived in Abu Dhabi to meet with local authorities in beginning preparation for the plane’s arrival in January. With the historic flight scheduled to take off from Abu Dhabi next March, pilots of the Solar Impulse 2 (Si2) will conduct test flights and perform fine-tuning exercises this January, in preparation for the five month journey. The plane, and its two co-founders, will attempt to fly around the world – without a drop of fuel – only using the power of the sun.

Enviromena Power Systems (Enviromena), a portfolio company of Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, has been successfully acquired by Arjun Infrastructure Partners (AIP). AIP is a UK-based independent infrastructure investment advisory company. It partners with institutional investors, mainly pension plans, to access direct infrastructure investments.

Dudgeon wind farm on track as first turbine begins delivering electricity

Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, announced today that its second large-scale offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom has started supplying electricity to British homes. Around six thousand households are now receiving power from the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm after the project’s first turbine began operating today. Sixty-seven 6-megawatt (MW) turbines will be installed altogether, generating enough power to provide electricity to 400,000 homes.

First Startup Accelerator in Middle East Focused on Sustainability and Clean Tech Launched by Masdar

Today, as part of Masdar’s Innovation Week activities, Masdar, BP and Masdar Institute launched The Catalyst, the region’s first technology startup accelerator focused on sustainability and clean tech. The Catalyst, which is supported by USD 5 million in funding from BP, will help startups accelerate their business through funding, training and mentorship. Masdar Hosts Urban Development Workshop

Today, the Urban Journalism Academy, a pioneering initiative to train journalists and media professionals with an interest in sustainable, urban development, held a workshop for media on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2016.
