Masdar and European Investment Bank Working Together to Accelerate Renewable Energy Development in ME
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, today announced plans to collaborate with the European Investment Bank (EIB) – the financial arm of the European Union – to accelerate the development of clean energy projects in parts of the Middle East and North Africa. The framework agreement, signed during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, allows Masdar and EIB to jointly identify investment opportunities to develop and finance renewable energy projects.

Masdar Signs Cooperative Framework with Energias de Portugal
Masdar today signed a framework agreement with Energias De Portugal (EDP), Portugal’s largest utility company, to explore opportunities to deploy large-scale renewable energy projects and promote renewables as source of foreign aid. The agreement was signed by Jorge Cruz Morais, director-general of EDP Internacional and H.E Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of Masdar, during the seventh World Future Energy Summit, a global platform that addresses the future of renewable energy and sustainable development in the Middle East and the world.

Two-Day Sustainability Festival at Masdar City Opens Tomorrow
Masdar City’s two-day sustainability festival will get underway tomorrow, marking the end of the second edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW). Masdar Signs MOU with JBIC to Accelerate Renewable Energy Technologies
Masdar today signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) that will see the two parties work together in identifying, financing and executing renewable energy projects around the world. The agreement was signed by H.E Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and CEO of Masdar, and JBIC Governor, CEO, Hiroshi Watanabe. The signing took place in the presence of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.

Hundreds of runners to participate in Masdar City sponsored Environmental Marathon
Abu Dhabi’s sustainable urban community Masdar City will host an estimated 300 runners this Friday for the “Environmental Marathon” organised by Environment Friends Society. Open to men, women, children and people of determination, the 3km road race is free to enter and perfect preparation for the Special Olympics XI MENA taking place in the UAE later this month. Mauritania solar network passes 50% milestone
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s future energy company, today announced that it had passed the halfway mark in its project to construct a 16.6 MW solar power plant network in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Masdar broke ground on the project in December last year. When complete, the network of eight solar power plants will almost double the UAE’s contribution to Mauritania’s renewable energy capacity to a total of 31.6 MW.

Masdar City’s PRT system celebrates milestone with 2 millionth passenger
The Masdar City Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system celebrated its 6th anniversary on 28 November, just a week after carrying its 2 millionth passenger. The PRT’s driverless pods have covered a distance of more than 891,879 km on their transit route over the past six years, and have displaced CO2 emissions equivalent to running 53 cars for a whole year.
