Lighting up Australian Antarctic station with solar
Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, and the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) have successfully installed the first solar panel system at an Australian Antarctic station, it was announced today. The solar installation will provide up to 30 kW of electric power to the Casey research station, located on Vincennes Bay in the Windmill Islands, just outside the Antarctic Circle, during the Austral summer months. The aim of the project, which is the first solar array providing power to an Australian Antarctic research station, is to reduce the reliance on diesel fuel, which is delivered yearly by the AAD’s Antarctic icebreaker, the Aurora Australis, from Hobart, Tasmania – a journey of 3,443km.

Masdar Hits Halfway Milestone in Project Bringing Electricity to Rural Morocco
Abu Dhabi, UAE, 9 April 2016 – Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, has installed 50 percent of the solar home systems as part of an innovative project to electrify rural Morocco. The installation of 9,000 out of 17,670 systems across 940 villages comes only a year after the partnership agreement was signed between Masdar and Morocco’s Office National de l'Electricité et de l'Eau Potable (ONEE).

New Zealand Partners with UAE to Boost Solar Power in the Solomon Islands
The United Arab Emirates and New Zealand has signed an arrangement for the development of a jointly funded 1 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the Solomon Islands. Both countries share a common interest in the rapid deployment of renewable energy in developing countries, particularly in the Pacific region, and signed a renewable energy partnership arrangement in January 2014.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the Masdar-built Sheikh Zayed Solar Power Plant in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania’s capital city, Nouakchott, while on a state visit to the country on 21 October 2015. President of Palau Inaugurates Masdar-Developed Solar Projects in Palau

Tommy Remengesau, Jr., President of the Republic of Palau, and His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, yesterday inaugurated three small-scale solar energy projects in the South Pacific island nation of Palau. The projects were developed by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, with funding provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development as part of “Cycle 2” of the US $50 million UAE - South Pacific Partnership Fund (UAE-South Pacific Islands Fund).
