Fire at Masdar Offices Under Control
A fire started at approximately 1:30 am at the temporary Masdar offices on the outskirts of Masdar City. Masdar City and its buildings were not affected by the fire, and no one was injured. The fire caused damage to Block 1 and 2, a section of Masdar’s temporary offices. Abu Dhabi Civil Defence brought the fire under control and is looking into the cause.

Young Emirati to Join Solar Impulse team on Historic Round-the-World Flight
Hasan Al Redaini will join the Solar Impulse 2 (Si2) team on its round-the-world journey set to take-off this March from Abu Dhabi. Si2 is the first solar-powered plane able to fly day and night without a drop of fuel.

HRH Crown Prince of Denmark Visits Masdar Projects during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week
HRH Crown Prince of Denmark today visited two of Masdar’s flagship projects including Masdar City, the low-carbon urban development, and Shams 1, the 100-megawatt concentrated solar power plant in Abu Dhabi. The Crown Prince was in the United Arab Emirates to participate in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) where Denmark yesterday signed a framework agreement with the UAE to explore and co-develop renewable energy projects.

Masdar Achieves Financial Close of London Array Project
Masdar Energy UK, a wholly owned subsidiary of Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, today announced the completion of a 12 year limited-recourse project financing of up to £266 million for its stake in phase one of London Array. The landmark financing is the first time that a limited-recourse structure has been completed for an unincorporated joint venture within the renewable energy industry.

First Eco-Friendly Credit Card Launched in the UAE
Major leading UAE financial institution, First Gulf Bank (FGB), will launch the UAE’s first green Visa Credit Card next week in association with Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, at the sixth World Future Energy Summit during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The First Gulf Bank Masdar Card allows members of the community to become more involved in different environmentally sustainable initiatives. The product falls in line within a series of socially geared products that FGB has developed recently.

Masdar Sponsors Two “Green” Films at 6th Annual Abu Dhabi Film Festival
In addition to sponsoring the films, Masdar will host a private screening of Trashed, a documentary film about the ever-increasing global problem of waste and overflowing landfills. The private screening will be joined by the movie’s director Candida Brady, and will be held at the Emirates Palace. Masdar Begins Delivery of Four New UAE Funded Solar Projects in Pacific Island Countries
Masdar today announced the construction kick-off for four new solar-power projects in the Pacific island countries of Kiribati, Fiji, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. Financed under the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development’s US$50 million UAE-Pacific Partnership Fund, the solar projects will collectively deliver 1.8 megawatts of clean energy and contribute to fuel savings worth US$2 million per year. Completion of the projects is expected by the second half of 2015.

German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel Visits Masdar
Sigmar Gabriel, German vice chancellor and minister for economic affairs and energy, and a delegation of senior officials yesterday visited Masdar. The delegation also toured Masdar City, one of the world’s most sustainable urban developments, and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in a visit that underscores the alignment between the UAE and Germany on the importance of developing and adopting clean technology and renewable energy.
