Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy (WiSER) has announced four strategic partnerships with the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN), Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21), General Electric (GE), and Masdar Institute of Science and Technology Young Future Energy leaders (YFEL) programme at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, the largest gathering on sustainability in the Middle East.

MENA Startups Participate in “Pitch Sprint” as Part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2016
Abu Dhabi, UAE – 21 January, 2016: Promising technology startups, focused on technologies for sustainability, today had the chance to present their innovations at the first “Pitch Sprint” held as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The invitation only, half-day, technology showcase was hosted by The Catalyst, the region’s first technology startup accelerator focused on sustainability and clean technologies, which was launched in November during UAE Innovation Week. The Catalyst is a partnership between Masdar, BP and Masdar Institute.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi Appointed CEO of Masdar
Abu Dhabi, UAE – February 25, 2016: Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi has been formally appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company. Mr Al Ramahi joined Masdar in 2008 as Head of Internal Audit and Compliance, rising to Chief Financial Officer and then Chief Operating Officer.

Masdar and Taaleri to launch a joint venture to accelerate wind and solar renewable energy development in Central and Eastern Europe
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 15 January, 2019 – Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, and Taaleri Energia, a Finnish wind and solar developer and fund manager, signed an agreement for the establishment of a joint venture with the aim of developing renewable energy projects in Central and Eastern Europe. The joint venture aims to build upon the success of Masdar and Taaleri’s ongoing activities in the Western Balkans by expanding their collaboration through the joint development of onshore wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) projects.

UAE rolls out renewable energy training programme for Pacific Island countries
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) has launched a two-year renewable energy training programme for Pacific Island countries financed by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), theleading national entity for development aid. The training is being led by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company.

When we think of renewable energy infrastructure, we often have in mind dark blue photovoltaic rectangles carpeting the landscape, or large three-blade horizontal axis wind turbines marching along mountain ridges or into the sea. We think about grid reliability and consumer cost per kilowatt-hour, or we think about the climate change apocalypse that we will impose on future generations if we fail to act swiftly enough.

UAE Foreign Minister Visits Masdar-Built Solar Plant in Mauritania
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the Masdar-built Sheikh Zayed Solar Power Plant in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania’s capital city, Nouakchott, while on a state visit to the country on 21 October 2015. The UAE to Soar to New Heights with Falcon-Inspired Design for Expo 2020 National Pavilion
The National Media Council has selected architect Santiago Calatrava’s design for the UAE Pavilion for Dubai World Expo 2020. Located facing the Al Wasl Plaza, which lies at the centre of the 200-hectare exhibition zone, the UAE Pavilion – whose design will be inspired by a falcon in flight – will represent the UAE to the 25 million visitors and participants from over 180 nations who are expected to visit the Expo from October 2020 to April 2021.

UAE and New Zealand inaugurate solar power plant in Solomon Islands
The United Arab Emirates and New Zealand today inaugurated a solar power plant in Solomon Islands, developed and deployed by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company. The project was deployed as part of the US $50 million UAE-Pacific Partnership Fund (UAE-PPF) financed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, the development arm of the UAE government.
