Masdar’s 4th annual ‘Engage’ Blogging Contest

Global Leaders Convene for Start of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2016
Tomorrow (16 January, 2016), global policy and business leaders will convene in the capital of the United Arab Emirates for the first official day of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2016 (ADSW), the largest gathering on sustainability in the history of the Middle East. Attracting more than 33,000 delegates, including over 80 government ministers and visitors from 170 countries, ADSW – hosted by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company – addresses the interconnected challenges of energy and water security, climate change and sustainable development. ADSW 2016 is anchored on four key pillars: policy, business, leadership and awareness/research.

Financial Close Reached for the First Utility-Scale Wind Farm in Jordan
Jordan Wind Project Company (JWPC) today signed the financing agreement to begin construction of the Middle East’s first utility-scale wind-power project. Located in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the 117MW Tafila Wind Farm will increase the country’s total power capacity by 3%. The project will cost an estimated US$290 million.

When we think of renewable energy infrastructure, we often have in mind dark blue photovoltaic rectangles carpeting the landscape, or large three-blade horizontal axis wind turbines marching along mountain ridges or into the sea. The UAE to Soar to New Heights with Falcon-Inspired Design for Expo 2020 National Pavilion
The National Media Council has selected architect Santiago Calatrava’s design for the UAE Pavilion for Dubai World Expo 2020. Located facing the Al Wasl Plaza, which lies at the centre of the 200-hectare exhibition zone, the UAE Pavilion – whose design will be inspired by a falcon in flight – will represent the UAE to the 25 million visitors and participants from over 180 nations who are expected to visit the Expo from October 2020 to April 2021.

The project was deployed as part of the US $50 million UAE-Pacific Partnership Fund (UAE-PPF) financed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, the development arm of the UAE government.
