Solar Impulse 2 Arrives in Abu Dhabi
Solar Impulse 2 (Si2), the world’s first solar-powered plane able to fly day and night without a drop of fuel, arrived in Abu Dhabi by cargo plane from Switzerland. Si2’s crew of 80 technicians, engineers and a communications team will spend the next week re-assembling the giant plane and readying it for public display this month at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) in advance of its March take-off on its round-the-world flight.

Masdar Wins Three Emirates Energy Award Prizes
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, yesterday won three awards at the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy’s inaugural Emirates Energy Award ceremony. Masdar was recognized for its achievements in developing large-scale renewable energy projects, designing buildings with high levels of energy efficiency and cultivating young professionals in the clean-energy sector. Dudgeon wind farm signs publicly rated landmark project refinancing of GBP1.4 billion
The owners of the Dudgeon wind farm, Equinor, Masdar and China Resources Group have announced the signing of a hybrid refinancing that includes approximately GBP561 million of commercial bank debt and GBP706 million of senior secured notes privately placed with institutional investors, finally maturing in 2032. Both tranches have been oversubscribed, underpinning strong investor interest. The A- (EXP) rating by Fitch reflects efficient operations and robust asset performance.

Masdar collaborates with Department of Transport to roll out first all-electric bus service in the Middle East

The energy that the Earth receives from the Sun in just one hour is equal to the total amount of energy consumed by humans in one year. Part of this energy can be converted into electricity by photovoltaic systems. The basic unit of these systems is the light-absorbing solar cell, also called a photovoltaic (PV) cell. Masdar Signs MOU with JBIC to Accelerate Renewable Energy Technologies
Masdar today signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) that will see the two parties work together in identifying, financing and executing renewable energy projects around the world. The agreement was signed by H.E Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and CEO of Masdar, and JBIC Governor, CEO, Hiroshi Watanabe. The signing took place in the presence of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.

Hundreds of runners to participate in Masdar City sponsored Environmental Marathon
Abu Dhabi’s sustainable urban community Masdar City will host an estimated 300 runners this Friday for the “Environmental Marathon” organised by Environment Friends Society.
