Masdar and France Sign Joint Declaration to Cooperate on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund announces major projects in five countries
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) today announced the first five projects under the US$50 million UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund (the Fund) across Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The projects will significantly reduce energy costs in the region, as well as improve resilience to natural disasters such as Hurricane Irma.

Mexican President Visits Masdar City During ADSW 2016
His Excellency Enrique Peña Nieto, President of Mexico, yesterday paid a special visit to Masdar City – Masdar’s greenprint for one of the world’s most sustainable urban developments. He was received by Dr Ahmad Belhoul, Masdar’s CEO, who outlined Masdar’s role in constantly pushing the boundaries to keep improving the commercial viability of renewable energy, while simultaneously diversifying Abu Dhabi’s economy and extending the Emirate’s leadership in the energy sector.

Masdar City’s Etihad Eco-Residence has won the Green Residential Building award at the Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Green Building Awards 2018. A team from Multiplex Constructions LLC, which built the complex, accepted the award for the Masdar-developed project at a recent ceremony in Dubai.

Global “H20 Minus C02” Desalination Alliance Convenes First Meeting at ADSW 2016
The Global Clean Water Desalination Alliance (GCWDA) held its first meeting on 19 January during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The Masdar-led “H20 minus C02” Alliance was founded on 5 December on the sidelines of the Paris climate change negotiations (COP 21). The Alliance aims to bring together key water desalinationand clean energy stakeholders with the goal to reduce the CO2 emissions of the world’s water desalination. Organisations from 23 countries are members of the Alliance, including the United States, China, Korea, Japan and several European countries.

GRI to hold regional launch of new global sustainability reporting standards
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), an international independent organization that has pioneered corporate sustainability reporting since 1997, will hold the regional launch of the new GRI Standards in Abu Dhabi on 19th September 2017. Masdar and ONEE Partner to Deliver Electricity to 940 Remote Villages in the Kingdom of Morocco
Masdar and Morocco’s Office National de l'Electricité et de l'Eau Potable (ONEE) have signed a partnership to design, supply and install 17,670 Solar Home Systems across 940 villages in the Kingdom of Morocco. When complete, the solar homes, along with broader electrification initiatives, will result in 99 percent of rural Morocco having access to energy by the end of 2017 – a critical resource that underpins economic development.
