Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), Masdar and Khalifa University of Science and Technology
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), a Saudi Government Corporation responsible for power generation and supplying various regions in the Kingdom with desalinated water, and the Abu Dhabi-based Khalifa University of Science and Technology, represented by Masdar Institute, to accelerate the development and commercialization of sustainable desalination technologies needed to enhance regional water security. The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the International Water Summit, a key event of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2018, the region’s largest gathering on sustainability.

800MW third phase of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park reaches financial close
The financing for Phase 3 of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai has been completed. This marks the latest significant milestone for the Masdar-led consortium, with EDF Group’s subsidiary, EDF Energies Nouvelles, which is developing the 800-megawatt (MW) project in partnership with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

Global “H20 Minus C02” Desalination Alliance Convenes First Meeting at ADSW 2016
The Global Clean Water Desalination Alliance (GCWDA) held its first meeting on 19 January during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The Masdar-led “H20 minus C02” Alliance was founded on 5 December on the sidelines of the Paris climate change negotiations (COP 21). The Alliance aims to bring together key water desalinationand clean energy stakeholders with the goal to reduce the CO2 emissions of the world’s water desalination. Organisations from 23 countries are members of the Alliance, including the United States, China, Korea, Japan and several European countries.

GRI to hold regional launch of new global sustainability reporting standards
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), an international independent organization that has pioneered corporate sustainability reporting since 1997, will hold the regional launch of the new GRI Standards in Abu Dhabi on 19th September 2017. Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s Renewable Energy Company, has launched the fourth annual international ‘Engage’ Blogging Contest ahead of January’s Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2016 – the Middle East’s largest gathering on sustainability. Under the theme “The Transition to a Sustainable Economy by 2030,” the competition asks contestants to discuss their views on how governments and the private sector can collaborate to solve the risks posed by climate change.

Masdar and ONEE Partner to Deliver Electricity to 940 Remote Villages in the Kingdom of Morocco
Masdar and Morocco’s Office National de l'Electricité et de l'Eau Potable (ONEE) have signed a partnership to design, supply and install 17,670 Solar Home Systems across 940 villages in the Kingdom of Morocco. When complete, the solar homes, along with broader electrification initiatives, will result in 99 percent of rural Morocco having access to energy by the end of 2017 – a critical resource that underpins economic development.
