Masdar City receives ‘Visionaries’ Award at Energy Efficiency Global Forum, USA
This year’s EE Global Forum was the fifth annual gathering of discussions on how to increase energy efficiency through technological breakthroughs and policy advances. Masdar City was selected by the Forum’s International Steering Committee, comprising of high-level energy efficiency professionals from across the world, including: President of Schneider Electric U.S., Jeff Drees; United States Senate members Mark Warner and Jeanne Shaheen; Senior Vice President and Global Head, Efficiency and Sustainability, Building Technology, Siemens Industry Inc, Robert J. Dixon; and US House of Representatives members Edward Markey and Paul Tonko. The committee also comprised of several other prominent members from North America, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Latin Americas.

EWEC Announces Partners to Develop the World’s Largest Solar Power Plant
The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has announced the award for the development of the world’s largest solar power plant. The project was awarded to a consortium led by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and Masdar, with partners EDF and JinkoPower, to develop the 2 GW Al Dhafra Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Independent Power Producer (IPP) project, which will be located approximately 35 kilometers from Abu Dhabi city. The project’s power purchase agreement (PPA) and shareholders’ agreement were signed with EWEC.

Masdar signs agreement to develop Georgia’s largest utility-scale solar power plant
Masdar, one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, has signed an agreement with the Georgian Energy Development Fund (GEDF) to develop a solar photovoltaic (PV) power project in the country, with a capacity of as much as 100 megawatts (MW). The project, which will be jointly developed with the GEDF, will be Georgia’s largest solar power plant.

Financial Close Reached for the First Utility-Scale Wind Farm in Jordan
Jordan Wind Project Company (JWPC) today signed the financing agreement to begin construction of the Middle East’s first utility-scale wind-power project. Located in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the 117MW Tafila Wind Farm will increase the country’s total power capacity by 3%. The project will cost an estimated US$290 million.

Masdar and Taaleri to launch a joint venture to accelerate wind and solar renewable energy development in Central and Eastern Europe
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 15 January, 2019 – Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, and Taaleri Energia, a Finnish wind and solar developer and fund manager, signed an agreement for the establishment of a joint venture with the aim of developing renewable energy projects in Central and Eastern Europe. The joint venture aims to build upon the success of Masdar and Taaleri’s ongoing activities in the Western Balkans by expanding their collaboration through the joint development of onshore wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) projects.

Lighting up Australian Antarctic station with solar
Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, and the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) have successfully installed the first solar panel system at an Australian Antarctic station, it was announced today. The solar installation will provide up to 30 kW of electric power to the Casey research station, located on Vincennes Bay in the Windmill Islands, just outside the Antarctic Circle, during the Austral summer months. The aim of the project, which is the first solar array providing power to an Australian Antarctic research station, is to reduce the reliance on diesel fuel, which is delivered yearly by the AAD’s Antarctic icebreaker, the Aurora Australis, from Hobart, Tasmania – a journey of 3,443km.
