Masdar Launches Renewable Energy Desalination Program
Masdar today launched a pilot program to test and develop advanced energy-efficient seawater desalination technologies suitable to be powered by renewable energy sources. The long-term goal of the program is to implement renewable energy-powered desalination plants in the United Arab Emirates and to have a facility at commercial scale by 2020.

5,000 Students Attend WFES and International Water Summit in Abu Dhabi
More than 5,000 school and university students from across the UAE experienced how world leaders are addressing the challenges of energy, climate change, sustainable development and water conservation during this year’s World Future Energy Summit (WFES) and International Water Summit (IWS) in Abu Dhabi. THE PETROLEUM INSTITUTE LAUNCHES UAE TEAM’S ABU DHABI SOLAR CHALLENGE CAR
The Petroleum Institute (PI) today launched the solar-powered car that will represent the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the inaugural Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge, January 15-19, sponsored by ADNOC and hosted by Masdar. The super-sleek, high-tech vehicle will compete against 20 international teams in a multi-day, timed road competition across 1,200 kilometres of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Solar power – a primer
The energy that the Earth receives from the Sun in just one hour is equal to the total amount of energy consumed by humans in one year. Part of this energy can be converted into electricity by photovoltaic systems. The basic unit of these systems is the light-absorbing solar cell, also called a photovoltaic (PV) cell. Conventional solar cells contain a rigid semiconductor wafer made of crystalline silicon as the PV material, although other PV materials are now in use as well.

Masdar and European Investment Bank Working Together to Accelerate Renewable Energy Development in ME
