How sustainable technology will help Sharjah turn waste into energy
Sharjah has an ambitious goal to become the first zero-waste city in the Middle East by diverting all of its municipal waste away from landfill sites by 2020. Through a pioneering partnership to develop the country’s first waste-to-energy plant in the emirate, the new facility will play a significant role in achieving the UAE’s clean energy ambitions, while also paving the way for other similar projects to be launched in the country and across the MENA region.

This year’s EE Global Forum was the fifth annual gathering of discussions on how to increase energy efficiency through technological breakthroughs and policy advances. Masdar City was selected by the Forum’s International Steering Committee, comprising of high-level energy efficiency professionals from across the world, including: President of Schneider Electric U.S., Jeff Drees; United States Senate members Mark Warner and Jeanne Shaheen; Senior Vice President and Global Head, Efficiency and Sustainability, Building Technology, Siemens Industry Inc, Robert J. Masdar and ENGIE form US$5 billion strategic alliance to help drive UAE’s green hydrogen economy
ENGIE and Masdar, one of the world’s fastest-growing renewable energy companies, announced today that they have signed a strategic alliance agreement to explore the co-development of a UAE-based green hydrogen hub. The two companies are looking to develop projects with a capacity of at least 2 GW by 2030, with a total investment in the region of US$5 billion.
