Lighting up Australian Antarctic station with solar
Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, and the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) have successfully installed the first solar panel system at an Australian Antarctic station, it was announced today. The solar installation will provide up to 30 kW of electric power to the Casey research station, located on Vincennes Bay in the Windmill Islands, just outside the Antarctic Circle, during the Austral summer months. The aim of the project, which is the first solar array providing power to an Australian Antarctic research station, is to reduce the reliance on diesel fuel, which is delivered yearly by the AAD’s Antarctic icebreaker, the Aurora Australis, from Hobart, Tasmania – a journey of 3,443km.

Masdar and UK Green Investment Bank Sign MoU
Today, Masdar and the UK Green Investment Bank plc (GIB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore project investment opportunities in the UK’s clean energy sector. Masdar Launches Shams 1, the World’s Largest Concentrated Solar Power Plant in Operation
Today, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi officially inaugurated Shams 1, the largest concentrated solar power plant (CSP) in operation in the world. Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his delegation from the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh visited Masdar City today. They met senior members of Masdar City’s management, and were given a guided tour to showcase the city as an example of sustainability and urban planning best practices. The UAE Inaugurates Three Micro Grid Solar Plants in Fiji
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s minister of foreign affairs, today inaugurated a solar photovoltaic micro grid project that brings clean energy to some of Fiji’s outer islands. Constructed by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, the clean energy project is the third financed by the United Arab Emirates’ US$50 million Pacific Partnership Fund, through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). The Fiji project was financed with US$5 million from the UAE-Pacific Partnership Fund.
