Masdar Wins Three Emirates Energy Award Prizes
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, yesterday won three awards at the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy’s inaugural Emirates Energy Award ceremony. Masdar was recognized for its achievements in developing large-scale renewable energy projects, designing buildings with high levels of energy efficiency and cultivating young professionals in the clean-energy sector. The Emirates Energy Award recognizes and encourages best practices and leading initiatives in energy efficiency, alternative energy, sustainability and environmental protection.

The energy that the Earth receives from the Sun in just one hour is equal to the total amount of energy consumed by humans in one year. Part of this energy can be converted into electricity by photovoltaic systems. The basic unit of these systems is the light-absorbing solar cell, also called a photovoltaic (PV) cell. First announced in January 2013, theproject aims to develop and demonstrate energy-efficient seawater desalinationtechnologies efficient enough to be powered by renewable energy. The newtechnologies are expected to allow the implementation of cost-competitivelarge-scale seawater desalination plants powered by renewable energy in the UAEand abroad.
