Overview
The Tafila Wind Farm is the first commercial utility-scale wind power project in the Middle East. Located in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the 117-megawatt (MW) wind farm has increased the country’s total power capacity by 3 percent. The U$287 million project became operational in September 2015. It was officially inaugurated in December the same year by His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein of Jordan.
The wind farm is owned and operated by the Jordan Wind Project Company (JWPC). The current investors in JWPC are Masdar (50%), Al Blagha Group (30%) and APICORP (20%).
Tafila was the first wind power project to be developed under Jordan’s Renewable and Energy Efficiency Law passed in 2010.
