Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S), the Masdar initiative to develop future sustainability leaders, officially launched its virtual programs for high-school and university students on sustainable development goals with two workshops on how youth can support the UAE’s work on achieving the SDGs.

The Y4S platform, held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan, Member of the Executive Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, is a year-long youth-led program that invests and actively supports the development of young people, enabling them to become the sustainability leaders of tomorrow. The platform aims to directly engage 50,000 young people globally by 2030 through experiential, hands-on, and active learning programs.

On February 6, Y4S hosted a dedicated workshop for its Future Sustainability Leaders program, for university students and young professionals, in collaboration with the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre. The second workshop, for the Sustainability Ambassadors program, which covers high school students, was held on February 13, delivered in collaboration with the Youth Advisory Council of SDGs.The participants in both workshops were given invaluable insight into  how the UAE has supported the SDGs, their impact, and the role of youth in achieving them.

Both workshops concluded with a section ‘From Inspiration to Action,’ in which the program participants were divided into groups based on specific SDGs they had expressed an interest in. They were asked to create an action plan linked to their proposed goal that would help create an impact for their community and the planet. For both programs, the youth will continue working in groups to achieve their selected goals and implement their ideas.
