UAE committed to sustainable future for the world, says Masdar’s Yousif Al Ali
The UAE’s second Nationally Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement highlights that the country is committed to a sustainable future not only for itself but “for the entire world,” Yousif Al Ali, Executive Director, Masdar Clean Energy, said at the Gulf Intelligence Global UAE Energy Forum.
In December, the UAE committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions for the year 2030 by 23.5 percent, relative to the ‘business-as-usual’ scenario. “This is a huge important message,” Al Ali said at the Forum.
Achieving that reduction will require a range of solutions, Al Ali said, including increased reliance on renewable energy, the adoption of technologies related to waste management and promoting efficiency, and carbon capture and storage solutions.
Masdar has pioneered solutions in clean energy, and related technologies, and is playing an active role in the UAE achieving its objectives, while also supporting other countries in their energy transitions, Al Ali said. He highlighted the United Kingdom and Indonesia as being two examples of the more than 30 countries Masdar is active in, “and where we will be a part of their green recovery.”
The ADSW Summit, being held on January 19, as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2021, will focus on ensuring a green recovery, with three sessions of speeches, presentations and panel debates, reaching a global audience across multiple time zones.
