Masdar’s youth leaders attend COP25
A delegation of members from Masdar’s Future Sustainability Leaders and WiSER Pioneers programmes recently participated in the UN Climate Change Conference COP25, in Madrid, Spain.
Held from December 2-13, the aim of the conference, which was held under the Presidency of the government of Chile with logistical support from Spain, was for governments to take the next crucial steps in the UN climate change process.
According to the UN’s Climate Change website, one of the key objectives of COP25 is to raise “overall ambition also by completing several key aspects with respect to the full operationalisation of the Paris Climate Change Agreement”.
Masdar’s group of young leaders gained hands-on experience and unique insights into the inner workings of one of the biggest conventions on climate change.
The Future Sustainability Leaders programme is part of the Masdar-hosted Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S) platform, which aims to educate, empower and engage youth. The year-round programme connects local and international students and young professionals aged 20-25 with government, business and technology leaders to raise awareness of sustainability issues, develop vocational skills and promote career development opportunities.
Together with the Sustainability Ambassadors programme, a complementary initiative aimed at high school students, the Future Sustainability Leaders programme is dedicated to the realisation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals by engaging youth and empowering them to accelerate sustainable development.
Masdar also hosts the Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy (WiSER) platform’s Pioneers Programme, which is aimed to educate, engage and empower young women to become the next generation of leaders in sustainable development.
