The world’s first university for artificial intelligence (AI) has been launched at Masdar City in Abu Dhabi.

The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is a new graduate-level research institution, named after His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The university offers Master of Science and PhD programmes across three areas: machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing. Applications are currently being accepted and classes are scheduled to begin in September 2020. Students will receive full scholarships including monthly stipends, health insurance and accommodation.

AI is expected to become a vital tool in making the global economy become more sustainable and efficient across all sectors, including agriculture, water, energy and transport. The addition of the research-institution to Masdar City bolsters the city’s reputation as the home of innovation in Abu Dhabi and provides the opportunity for collaboration to develop innovative AI solutions for sustainable development.

Masdar City is currently home to more than 670 companies, including start-ups, SMEs and multinational companies.
