Offshore Wind

Out in the sea, offshore wind turbines capture the force of higher wind speeds, blowing in a more consistent direction, meaning they can be more energy efficient.

Masdar has developed several landmark offshore wind projects including the 630 megawatt (MW) London Array project which powers half a million British homes and displaces almost 1 million tonnes of carbon emissions a year.

Together with partners, we also developed the world’s first floating offshore wind farm. The 30MW Hywind project, off the Scottish coast, powers 22,000 homes and displaces 63,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.

In July 2023, Masdar signed an agreement to develop the 476MW Baltic Eagle wind farm off the coast of Germany’s Rügen Island. The plant will supply renewable energy to around 475,000 homes.

London Array is one of the world’s largest offshore wind farm currently in operation, a joint venture between Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Schroders Greencoat, Masdar, RWE Renewables.
