Waste-to-Energy
Waste-to-energy is the process of generating energy in the form of electricity or heat from the processing of municipal solid waste.
In 2017, Masdar signed a joint development agreement with Bee’ah of Sharjah to develop the UAE’s first waste-to-energy power plant. Completed in 2021, the plant diverted more than 300,000 tonnes of solid waste from landfill in its first year and offset 150,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. It generated enough energy to power over 2,000 homes per year.
